The Martians were here!

Scarlet Traces: The Great Game#1
Publisher: Image comics
Writer: Ian Edington
Artist: D'Israeli

What would happen if the 21st century were different from what it is today? Imagine a world split and unified differently geographically from the historical boundaries we know today. What if the planet had Colonies and squads stationed on Mars? In this title, SCARLET TRACES the reader follows the occurrences of a reporter and the occurrences that are leading to another war with the Martians. This is a fascinating tale with the “What if “scenario. Suppose an army of Martian's strive to conquer the earth in the nineteen forties. The Martians previously invaded the Earth in the eighteen hundreds. What if we had a hold on some of their Martian technology, how would it change history and the human way of life?

The drawing by D' Israeli shines and is stunning. The panels of a postmodern British culture set in the nineteen forties are reminiscent of the movie and novel the shape of things to come. The creative writing by Ian Edginton continues to jar the reader's interest from the original graphic novel scarlet traces. This is a fantastic science fiction story filled with a strong character-driving story. The political government’s conspiracy about their relationship with the Martians is intriguing. This is the first issue of a four issue Mini-run.

This title deserves an inquisitive rating of four.

Rousing WWII Action

Battler Briton #1
Publisher: Wildstorm
Writer: Garth Ennis
Artist: Colin Wilson

British World War II Aerial Action.

Readers, remember those exciting World War II films such as Tora, Tora, Tora, and Battle over Midway or Pearl Harbor? Many of these war movies had great action packed aerial fight scenes. The adventures of the heroic fighter pilots along with the aerial combat fight scenes were exciting to view. Many of the films had explosive climatic dogfights between spitfires and enemy pilots. They were outstanding visual effects on the silver screen. Wildstorm Comics have recaptured those days in this title Battler Britton.

Battler Britain was a well-known comic strip in London. He first appeared in 1956 in the issue of weekly the Sun. The creator of Battler Britton was Mike Butterworth. The artist was Jeff Campion. The stories were about fighter pilot Robert Herewood Britton known as “Battler.” This is a great introduction for the American audience to get a gander at a comic strip launched from England.

The American pilots did not take to kindly they would be assisting and learning from the British squad. Battler Britain takes it personal when an American pilot, Major Gilhooley pushes the British wing commander the wrong way. Just because he thought, Battler was not good enough to lead the mission. Therefore, the Britain showed the Major a left hook to the jaw. As the Colonel Master Interceded and stops the altercation, he informs them they should stop their bickering, because the real enemy is impending. Battler Britton’s mission is to destroy a fuel and ammunition dump in El FUQA. Battler Britton and his squadron will lead the attack. While Major Gilhooley leads the Americans, escort them, and cover their back. As the battle starts, the German gunners notice the Royal Air Force squadron Beaufighters. The Germans spotted the Squadron; they are pelleting the German gunners caught by surprise. The German gunners hold their ground. The 107th Squadron is winning their part of the battle, but suddenly in the distance barreling down on the Brits are German fighters known as snappers. As they ascend on the squadron the British retreat. A few of the fighters were pin downed and some of the crafts eliminated, the Americans with machine guns ablaze backed up the British squad with their P40's. The remaining fighter's view some of the British fighters landed behind enemy lines. Conflict arises as the British blame the Americans for getting their comrades killed and others captured.

Battler Britton #1 have some of the most astonishing and realistic aerial battle panels drawn by Colin Wilson, which pops right off of the pages. The stunning combat scenes are thrilling and visually depict a fiery battle in the desert plains. The story written so brilliantly by Garth Ennis plainly expresses the strong willed characters fighting the war with emotion and courage. This is an incredible story with action, adventure, and infighting between the American Army corp fighters and the British Squadron. This story is indicative of the British wartime spirit while fighting against Nazi Germany and World War II axes. Beat the bloody hell out of them, finish the mission, and make it back for tea.

This title deserves a V for victory fan rating of five.

The Image Comics Title Casanova is an espionage farce reminiscent of James Bond moves. Casanova is a secret agent working for his father. This stylish story set in the early sixties is a must read for fans of the super agent genera, such as Get Smart TV series and the spoof of Austin Powers movies, the Man from U.N.C.L.E. all rolled into one. This story has all the elements of the James bond movie with a romantic sexy flair.

Captain America 65th Anniversary one-shot

Since 1944, I have donned the Red White and Blue.
By The Inquisitive Critiquer

For over 65 years, I have worn the colors of the red, white & blue. In 1944, scientists injected me with a serum that made me a super soldier. I was issued a costume to remind the axis nations where I came from. I have fought for America in World War II. I have had comrades fight along my side, The Human Torch and Namor the Sub-Mariner. My most trusted comrade was Bucky Jones.

I remember when we were on a mission with Sgt. Fury in Germany. Our mission was to stop the Red Skull from finding a secret device to conquer the allies. Fury and his howling commandos assisted us on this mission along with two resistance fighters also battling against the Nazis. In one skirmish, Bucky caught a slug; bleed pretty badly. One of our contacts was a doctor who with the help of his daughter nursed Bucky back to health. Bucky was rather smitten on her. Bucky never returned to Germany or ever saw her again. The emotional scars must have lasted with Bucky, because as he never aged; His one love aged and passed away. Bucky has been influenced by something darker. He is known as the Winter Soldier.

I myself have been through hard times and indecision. I even turned my back on America and became a Nomad. I have fought along side the Falcon and made neighborhoods safe again for families. I experienced what real terror is when it hit home on September 11th 2001. I have been awakened from suspended animation from a group of Avengers. I have also seen many Avengers die. This is the least I can do to help Bucky for he has been a friend, comrade and more like a son to me. People wonder what drives me, motivates me. Is it the colors of the United States flag; that is the red, white, and blue? For I know the colors very well, I am Captain America.

…and me? I am The Inquisitive Critiquer. Let me take you back, back to the 50th anniversary Special of Captain America issue #383. With history I will then bring you forward to the 65th anniversary special.

In the 50th anniversary issue, the story “I am a legend” written by Mike Gruenwald and artwork%2
