I am a comic reviewer for www.comiccritique.com. I enjoy reading mainstream and independent comics. I have interviewed various artists, and writers in the comic community. such as Joe Kubert, Frank Beddor, and Nate Barlow, and others to come. I have been a comic collector for over thirty years. I still have the same excitement today when I read my first comic title. I hope to present the same vigor to the readers of this blog. JD

A new year is coming, Thank you artisan's of 2007!

2007 A year of exciting comic periodicals.

By John L. Daniels Jr.

Wow! Has 2007 been a very busy year for the big Two but the Independents are the big winners this year, independents have attained so much exposure this year it has really been tantalizing to see what next year brings.

The incredible standouts of 2007 are:

Scorn#1

The Canadian comic put a place on the comic industry for septagonstudios.com
A frightful yet true too Life story of what is happening in today’s society with random violence.

Dynamo 5 #1

The great tale of infidelity of a superhero who sired five children all taking on a special power from there father.

After The Cape#1

What happens when a hero of an elite fighting squad is pressured into stepping down because of his alcoholism? The answer is the most realistic story of the addiction of a superhero since speedy from the teen titans storyline of having him kicking heroin in the 70's.

Those are my three picks for the periodicals that you must or should have read.

The graphic novel compilation of the year is the Hatter M series in hardback. The book is based on Frank Beddor's incredible novel The Looking Glass wars.

Hatter M., the bodyguard of Alyss from Wonderland is on her trail, as both escaped her aunt redd the queen of hearts and she deviously tried to overthrow Alyss by killing her parents and trying to find Alyss to do away with her because she is the last heir to the throne of wonderland. The exciting journey for Hatter M. in our world makes this compilation one of the most incredible graphic novels of today!

The Most notables are:

Captain Gravity!
One of the most exhilarating accomplishments in the annuals of comic Dom and not known to many comic book readers (which is a shame) is the fantastic graphic novel from the Penny-Farthing press series of Captain Gravity, about an African American super hero in the 1930's circa world war II. This incredible journey about a Hollywood stagehand fighting the third Reich and its mystical black magic is the comic novel of the decade. If you as a reader and a fan of any type of periodical please I implore you get this graphic novel and sink in its majestic story of adventure and the drive of what the human spirit is all about.

I shall destroy your world!

Paul Karisik’s enduring tribute of Fletcher Hanks an unknown artist in the golden age of comics is re-introduced to a new group of fans.

AYA

One of the most enduring and heatfelt graphic novels published by Drawn and Quarterly is Aya, a tale of a teenager from the gold coast of Africa wanting to attend college and become a Doctor. Her parents (especially her father) discourage her from her dream. Peer pressure and social issues distract her from her thoughts and dreams but they are only obstacles that she overcomes and stray away from to keep her dream alive.

Well another year is getting ready to go and we as a world of great artisan's wait what is coming next.

This year personally has been gratifying, and enduring along with life's challenges. I am humble by the many people I was able to interview and the periodicals I was able to critique.

I just want to thank everyone personally. Thank You with all sincerest acknowledgements for what you bring forth to readers and fans of your crafts.
